for all creatures great and small!

One little mark at a time

  • 'Marks that Matter' is my 'go to' when I recognise fear, stress and anxiety approaching

  • 1 - 30 minutes a day I connect and have a chat with my mind (self-chat)

Self-chat is connected to a wide range of mental functions including problem solving, reasoning, planning, motivation and attention

  • It takes the mind to 'the creative zone'

  • The creative zone is a zone that welcomes mistakes, encourages risk taking and allows playfulness

  • It takes the mind out of the present and into the unknown

  • It brings out the child within, exploring, learning and discovering new ways of expressing and understanding the world around you

  • It cultivates self awareness that improves mental well-being both short-term and long-term

  • Every mark made records a moment, a feeling that's been significant that day (no matter how little or large) allowing deeper focus, acceptance and reflection of that feeling

  • 'Marks that Matter' is a powerful tool. It focuses on the little moments of each day. The morning sun, the words in a song that made you pause in the chaos of the day,  that person that smiled at you as you jumped off the train

The mind remembers the negative moments over the positive moments

It's how it supports us not to make the same mistake again

it naturally defaults to the negative unless we train it to focus on the positives

New Paragraph

"Art washes from the soul the dust of every day life"

Pablo Picasso

Why is practicing abstract art beneficial to our mind?

  •  It encourages creative thinking and opens the imagination
  •  It encourages thinking 'outside the box' which stimulates the brain to grow new neurones
  •  It builds confidence in individuals (especially in young minds that struggle to create accurate 'copies' of art work) that they are fabulous creative explorers
  •  It introduces minds to cultural connections and inspirational artists that changed the way people view and understand art
  • It encourages individuals to think differently and to take risks in their journey, discovering new ways to make 'marks that matter' to them and opens curiosity
  • It encourages the mind to talk in a visual form - especially when talking to someone 'face to face' is a struggle, it creates our visual story and beliefs

Claire at Don't Burst My Bubble has definitely sparked Alice's imagination ...when she left she said 'Mummy that made me so happy'.
